Our Story
Marvin and Pearl first got into the chicken business in 1953 by dressing poultry in their shop behind their home in Rehrersburg. For 17 years they sold their poultry at local farmers markets in Leesport, Schuylkill Haven, Kutztown, and Adamstown. During this time, in 1956 at the Renninger's Market in Schuylkill Haven is where Kauffman's BBQ Chicken began. Marvin and Pearl where approached by two New Yorkers who were going out of business. For $100 Marvin and Pearl bought the New Yorker's rotisserie machine and a secret barbecue sauce recipe. The secret recipe is the recipe we still use to this day. They ventured to local churches, fire companies and other organizations, selling their new rotisserie- cooked chicken. The Kutztown, Reading, and Bloomsburg Fairs were also their yearly ventures.
In 1955 Marvin and Pearl expanded their poultry dressing and bought a farm. They rented the house out and farmed the land for extra income. On the farm they raised their poultry such as: chickens, ducks, and turkeys.
In 1979 Marvin and Pearl established their family restaurant, Kauffman's Bar-B-Que Ranch. Now in 2024, and 45 years later the restaurant has been a family success. Both Pearl and Marvin have passed away but their son Chris and his children still manage the restaurant.
The restaurant has changed in style, but not in atmosphere or the quality and quantity of the food everyone has come to love for an affordable price. With the dinning room seating over 250 people and offering views of the Kauffman Farm that was purchased back in 1955, pond with ducks, and 18 hole miniature golf course. The restaurant has an ice cream parlor, a pavilion for outdoor seating and a larger pavilion for rental, which seats up to 300 people.
The restaurant is located off of Route 22 and offers our famous rotisserie barbecue chicken, along with home cooked Pennsylvania Dutch food as well as homemade soups, desserts, and an all you can eat salad bar. We look forward to seeing you and make sure to bring your appetite with you.
